Stockport Homes and GMP Take Action to Close Troublesome Property, Ensuring Neighborhood Safety
The Safer Neighbourhoods Team at Stockport Homes has effectively obtained a Closure Order for a property located at Pembroke House, Edgeley, in response to an increase in reports of severe antisocial behaviour. Collaborating closely with the Police and the Council, the Safer Neighbourhoods Team gathered substantial evidence to initiate legal proceedings against both the property and its tenant.
Under powers granted by the 'Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014', a Closure Order was authorized at a hearing in Stockport Magistrates’ Court on July 2, 2024. This action follows ongoing anti-social behaviour at the property, which has significantly impacted local residents and the community. Numerous reports cited threatening behaviour, disputes, verbal abuse, drug-related incidents, and criminal activity, prompting intervention by SHG and GMP. The Closure Order prohibits any individuals from residing in or visiting the property for a period of three months. It aims to provide relief and safeguard affected residents while Stockport Homes takes steps to regain permanent possession of the property
Greater Manchester Police are committed to support residents that report anti-social behaviour and will take a firm stance on those who breach regulations and cause distress to other residents. Response officers and Neighbourhood teams have worked hard in a collaborative partnership with Stockport Homes to enforce a closure order granted on 2nd July 2024.
