Brookhead Lodge officially opens, bringing high-quality extra care living to Stockport

It was also great to welcome back some of the original residents from Edinburgh Close who previously lived on the site when it operated as a sheltered scheme, making the event a meaningful moment for the community.

The development provides 49 one- and two-bedroom apartments across three floors, offering high-quality homes for social rent designed specifically for older people.

Delivered by Rowlinson Construction Ltd, with Wilkinson Cowan Partnership acting as employer’s agent and PRP as architect, the scheme represents a significant investment in housing for older residents in the Borough.

Brookhead Lodge has been designed to support independent living while fostering a strong sense of community. It provides independent living with 24/7 on-site care delivered through Valley Care, ensuring residents have access to support whenever they need it. The scheme also includes a range of on-site facilities, such as a bistro and hair salon, both of which will be open to the wider public, helping to create a vibrant and welcoming environment.

Extra Care Living accommodation is tailored to meet the needs of older people, offering residents independence and privacy within their own home, alongside opportunities to socialise and be part of a supportive community.

The project has been made possible thanks to funding from Homes England, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC).

The opening event was supported by Rowlinson Construction, who provided a choir during the celebration and a buffet for residents to enjoy afterwards, helping to create a warm and memorable occasion for everyone attending.

The opening of Brookhead Lodge marks an important step in providing modern, accessible housing options for older residents in Stockport, supporting healthier, more independent lives within a safe and connected community.

Together with our partners, Rowlinson has worked hard to deliver these high-quality homes and facilities, alongside additional spaces that are open to the public.  Brookhead Lodge represents a step-change from the site's former sheltered accommodation. We hope all the residents will be very happy in their new homes.
