A Stockport Homes customer has been recognised on the national stage after winning the ‘Tenant of the Year’ award at the Housing Heroes Awards 2026. 

The Housing Heroes Awards celebrate the individuals and organisations making an outstanding contribution to communities and the housing sector across the UK. The ‘Tenant of the Year’ category recognises residents who have gone above and beyond to support others, improve services and create positive change within their communities. 

Ged Mcloughlin was selected as this year's winner in recognition of their exceptional commitment to customer involvement, community engagement and LGBT+ inclusion. 

Since becoming involved with Stockport Homes in 2021, Ged has dedicated countless hours to helping improve services and ensuring customer voices influence decision-making. Over the past year alone, they have contributed more than 155 hours to customer involvement activities. 

As Chair of the Complaints Advisory Panel, Ged has helped shape service improvements and created opportunities for meaningful customer feedback. They have also contributed to policy reviews, consultation activities, senior recruitment processes and governance work, ensuring the customer perspective remains central to key decisions. 

Ged is also a leading advocate for LGBT+ inclusion within social housing. Through their work with Rainbow Roofs, the LGBT+ network for social housing customers across the North, they have represented customer voices at national conferences, participated in research projects and supported community initiatives across Greater Manchester and beyond. 

Their work has helped raise awareness of the importance of inclusive housing services while encouraging greater customer participation throughout the sector.
