Owned by Stockport Council and managed by Stockport Homes. The AG Centre Community Centre had not received significant investment for a prolonged period. It was popular and well used but was in urgent need of component replacement and modernisation. This included wholesale internal and external remodelling to incorporate a dedicated space to host a ‘Your Local Pantry’ provision.
Dash architecture provided the architectural services, cost control, contract administration and Principal Designer role through RIBA stages 1-7. We also helped develop the project brief through consultation with stakeholders within the various client service areas of Community Buildings, Customer Involvement and Community Engagement. Once planning approval and funding was secured we sought to engage a competent main contractor to deliver the works. The scope comprised of external envelope elemental replacement; cladding, windows, roofing and remodelling and refurbishment of the internal areas, including general building and joinery, electrical rewire, heating and plumbing installations and internal wall/floor finishes.
As part of the collaborative ethos of the project and the social commitment to support developing businesses, Dash supported Three Sixty Construction. They priced the project from the drawings and specification prepared for tender and we worked with them to negotiate their costs and rates to align with the budget. They also had the availability to start on site early without the need for a lengthy procurement programme and extended lead-in times, taking advantage of delivering the works over the summer period.
This collaborative approach adopted between Stockport Homes’ various client service areas, Dash and the main contractor, has ensured the agreed design and proposals were delivered successfully and to a high standard. The result is one of total transformation of the previous building into a modern and eye-catching facility for the surrounding community to enjoy and a commercial asset for the group and Stockport Council.
